    More about water heaters…

    Tank Heaters

This type of heater comes in gas or electric models, and is likely located in a closet, the garage, or attic of your home.  This type of unit stores heated water 24/7 and replenishes and reheats its supply once it is depleted.  The problem with standard tank heaters is that you may run out of hot water depending on your home’s usage and the tank’s capacity.  You’ve probably experienced this when being the last person to shower in a household of guests or children.  The lower cost of purchasing and installing these units means that replacing your tank heater ever decade or so might save you money in the long run.

    Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters are more energy efficient than standard tank heaters because they only heat the water needed per shower or load of laundry.  They also do not off gas at dangerously high temperatures, and in most cases, the transition to a tankless system does not require an elaborate or invasive system re-design.  The units cost more upfront for parts and installation than tank heaters.  Give us a call and our specialists can help decide which system is right for your home!

    Water Heater Replacement

Water heaters are not designed to last forever.  Like any household appliance, they require regular maintenance and sometimes replacement.  Electric water heaters especially are more susceptible to sediment buildup.  Sediment builds on the heating element of the tank, making the water heater have to work harder to maintain the set water temperature.  Electric water heaters may last slightly longer than gas units, which have an average lifespan of  8-12 years; however, electric systems will have to work harder and use more energy during their lifespans.
